1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?
Personal information you disclose to us
In Short: We collect personal information that you provide to us, and a minimal set of data necessary to operate the service.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you register on the Services, enable text chat, participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise when you contact us.
Personal Information Provided by You. The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the Services, the choices you make, and the features you use. The personal information we collect may include the following:
- Account identifier: A salted cryptographic hash of your Steam ID, generated on our server during authentication. This hash serves as your unique account identifier in our system. We do not store your raw Steam ID on our servers.
- Display name / username: The display name you choose or that is derived from your Steam profile.
- Discord user ID (optional): If you choose to link your Discord account, we store your Discord user ID to associate your game account with your Discord identity in our Discord server. We also generate and store a salted cryptographic hash of your Discord user ID for moderation purposes. You can unlink your Discord account at any time.
- Date of birth: Collected only during the text chat activation process to verify you meet the minimum age requirement (16 years). Your date of birth is used for this one-time verification and is not stored after the check is completed. Only the result (eligible or ineligible) is recorded.
- Chat messages: If you enable text chat, the content of messages you send within multiplayer lobbies is transmitted through and temporarily stored on our servers.
- Moderation data: If your messages are flagged by our automated moderation system or reported by other users, the flagged message content, timestamps, moderation verdicts, and associated account identifier are stored as moderation records.
- Hashed IP address: When you connect to the Services, your public IP address is immediately processed into a salted cryptographic hash using the same method as your account identifier. We store only this non-reversible hash. Your plaintext IP address is never stored on our servers. This hashed IP is used for moderation purposes, including detecting ban evasion and preventing abuse.
Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.
Steam Authentication Data. We use Steam authentication to create and manage your account. During this process, we receive your Steam ID from Valve Corporation. We immediately hash this identifier with a secret server-side salt and use the resulting hash as your account identifier. We do not access your Steam friends list, game library, purchase history, email address, or any other Steam account data. See Section 5 for more details.
Local Storage. The mod stores your Steam ID locally on your device for authentication purposes (such as enabling auto-login). This data is stored on your device, not on our servers, and is under your control. You can delete it at any time by removing the mod's local configuration files.
All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes to such personal information.
2. HOW DO WE PROCESS YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We process your information to provide, improve, and administer our Services, for content moderation and community safety, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law. We may also process your information only with your prior explicit consent.
We process your personal information for a variety of reasons, depending on how you interact with our Services, including:
- To facilitate account creation and authentication and otherwise manage user accounts. We process your Steam ID (by hashing it) to create and maintain your account.
- To provide text chat functionality. We process chat message content to deliver messages to other lobby participants.
- To moderate content and enforce community standards. We process chat messages through automated content moderation systems (Paxmod) to detect and filter prohibited content including hate speech, harassment, threats, and illegal material. We process moderation records (flagged messages, reports, ban history) to enforce our Terms of Service and protect users.
- To verify age eligibility. We process your date of birth (without storing it) to verify that you meet the minimum age requirement for the text chat feature.
- To enforce bans and prevent circumvention. We retain non-reversible account identifiers (hashed Steam ID and, if linked, hashed Discord user ID) and a hashed version of your IP address, along with associated moderation status, to prevent banned users from creating new accounts or relinking to circumvent sanctions.
- To protect our Services. We process your information as part of our efforts to keep our Services safe and secure, including fraud monitoring and prevention.
- To comply with legal obligations. We process and retain information as necessary to comply with applicable laws, including reporting obligations related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM) under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A.
- To save or protect an individual's vital interest. We may process your information when necessary to save or protect an individual's vital interest, such as to prevent harm.
3. WHAT LEGAL BASES DO WE RELY ON TO PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
In Short: We only process your personal information when we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason (i.e., legal basis) to do so under applicable law, like with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services, to protect your rights, or to fulfill our legitimate business interests.
If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on in order to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information:
- Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time. Learn more about withdrawing your consent.
- Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may process your personal information for some of the purposes described in order to:
- Moderate user-generated content, enforce community safety standards, and maintain ban records to protect users from harmful behavior
- Diagnose problems and/or prevent fraudulent activities
- Legal Obligations. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as to cooperate with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercise or defend our legal rights, report child sexual abuse material to NCMEC, or disclose your information as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.
- Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party, such as situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person.
If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.
We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (i.e., express consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be inferred (i.e., implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time.
In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including, for example:
- If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way
- For investigations and fraud detection and prevention
- For business transactions provided certain conditions are met
- If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim
- For identifying injured, ill, or deceased persons and communicating with next of kin
- If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be victim of financial abuse
- If it is reasonable to expect collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or the accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
- If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
- If it was produced by an individual in the course of their employment, business, or profession and the collection is consistent with the purposes for which the information was produced
- If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes
- If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations
4. WHEN AND WITH WHOM DO WE SHARE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION?
In Short: We share chat message content with our content moderation provider and may share information in specific situations described below.
We may need to share your personal information in the following situations:
- Content Moderation (Paxmod). All chat messages are transmitted to Paxmod, a third-party content moderation service, for automated filtering before delivery to other users. Paxmod processes the text content of your messages to detect prohibited content. Paxmod acts as a data processor on our behalf and processes data solely for the purpose of content moderation. For more information about Paxmod's data practices, please refer to their privacy policy at paxmod.com.
- Law Enforcement and Legal Obligations. We may share information with law enforcement authorities, regulatory bodies, or NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) when required by law or when we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect your safety or the safety of others, or investigate fraud or respond to a government request.
- Business Transfers. We may share or transfer your information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company.
We have not disclosed, sold, or shared any personal information to third parties for a business or commercial purpose in the preceding twelve (12) months. We will not sell or share personal information in the future belonging to users and other consumers.
5. HOW DO WE HANDLE YOUR STEAM AUTHENTICATION AND DISCORD LINKING?
In Short: We use Steam to verify your identity and immediately hash your Steam ID. You may optionally link a Discord account, which stores your Discord user ID and a hashed version of it.
Steam Authentication
Our Services use Steam authentication (provided by Valve Corporation) to create and manage your account. When you log in, we receive your Steam ID from Valve. We immediately process this ID by generating a salted cryptographic hash (SHA-256 with a secret server-side salt), and this hash becomes your account identifier in our system.
We do not access, collect, or store:
- Your raw Steam ID (it is hashed immediately upon receipt and the original is not retained)
- Your Steam friends list
- Your Steam game library or purchase history
- Your email address associated with Steam
- Any other Steam account data beyond the ID needed for authentication
Your relationship with Valve Corporation and your use of Steam is governed solely by your agreement(s) with Valve. We recommend that you review Valve's privacy policy to understand how they collect, use, and share your personal information.
Discord Account Linking (Optional)
You may optionally link your Discord account to your game account. Discord linking is not used for authentication or login. It is used solely to associate your game account with your Discord identity in our Discord server (for example, for role assignment or identity verification).
When you link your Discord account, we collect and store:
- Your Discord user ID: Stored alongside your game account while your account is active. Deleted when you unlink your Discord account or delete your game account.
- A salted hash of your Discord user ID: Generated using the same salting and hashing process as your Steam ID. This hash is retained after account deletion for moderation and ban enforcement purposes (see Section 8).
We do not access, collect, or store your Discord friends list, server memberships, message history, email address, or any other Discord account data beyond your user ID. Linking is voluntary and can be removed at any time through your account settings.
6. TEXT CHAT DATA AND CONTENT MODERATION
In Short: Chat messages are processed by automated moderation systems, stored temporarily, and may be retained longer if flagged or reported.
If you opt in to the text chat feature (which requires verifying that you are at least 16 years of age), the following data processing occurs:
Message processing: Every chat message you send is transmitted to our server and routed through Paxmod's content moderation API before being delivered to other lobby participants. Paxmod analyzes the text content for prohibited material and returns a moderation verdict. Messages that fail moderation may be blocked, censored, or flagged for review.
What is stored per message:
- Your hashed account identifier (sender)
- Lobby identifier
- Message content (post-moderation)
- Timestamp
- Paxmod moderation verdict/scores
- Report flag (if reported by another user)
What is NOT stored:
- Your raw Steam ID
- Your plaintext IP address (your IP is immediately hashed upon connection; only the non-reversible hash is stored; see Section 1 for details)
- Your date of birth (used only for the one-time age check, then discarded)
User reports: When a user reports another user for abusive behavior, we log the reported message content, the reporter's account identifier, the reported user's account identifier, and a timestamp. False or malicious reports may result in action against the reporting user's account.
CSAM reporting: We are registered with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline. If we become aware of any content that constitutes or appears to constitute child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or child exploitation, we will report it to NCMEC and/or relevant law enforcement authorities and preserve all related evidence for a minimum of one year as required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A (as amended by the REPORT Act).
No expectation of privacy: Chat messages sent through the Services are subject to automated filtering and, where necessary, human review for moderation purposes. You should not expect privacy in the content of messages sent through the Services.
7. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?
In Short: We keep your information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Notice unless otherwise required by law.
We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. The specific retention periods are:
| Data Type | Retention Period | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Account data (hashed ID, display name, preferences) | Duration of account | Deleted upon account deletion request, except as noted in Section 8 |
| Unflagged chat messages | 30 days | Automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days |
| Flagged/reported chat messages | Up to 12 months | Retained for moderation follow-up and legal compliance |
| CSAM-related evidence | Minimum 1 year | Required by US federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A) |
| Moderation action records (bans, warnings) | 1 to 3 years | Retained for community safety and defense of legal claims |
| Anonymized ban records (hashed Steam ID, hashed Discord ID if linked, hashed IP address, + ban flag) | Indefinite | Non-reversible identifiers retained to enforce bans; see Section 8 |
When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize such information, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
8. ACCOUNT DELETION AND DATA RETENTION
In Short: You can delete your account at any time. Most data is erased, but certain moderation-related records are retained in pseudonymized form for safety and legal purposes.
You may request deletion of your account at any time through the account management interface or by contacting us at bmp@virtualized.dev. Upon receiving a valid deletion request, we will process the deletion within 30 days.
What is deleted:
- Your display name and profile information
- Your Discord user ID (if linked)
- All unflagged chat messages
- Any other personal data associated with your account
What is retained (in pseudonymized form):
- Non-reversible account identifiers and moderation status: Your salted hashed Steam account identifier, a salted hash of your IP address, and, if you linked a Discord account, a salted hash of your Discord user ID, along with any associated ban or moderation status are retained to enforce bans and prevent banned users from creating new accounts, relinking, or reconnecting from the same network to circumvent sanctions. These identifiers cannot be used to identify you or link back to your Steam profile, Discord profile, or IP address without access to our server-side security key, which is never shared. Legal basis: Legitimate interest in community safety and the defense of legal claims.
- Flagged or reported chat messages: Messages that were flagged by our moderation systems or reported by other users may be retained for up to 12 months. Your username in these records is replaced with a pseudonymous identifier (e.g., "deleted_user_a3f9"). Legal basis: Legitimate interest in community safety; GDPR Article 17(3)(e) (establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims).
- CSAM-related evidence: If content associated with your account was reported to NCMEC or law enforcement, related evidence is retained for a minimum of one year. Legal basis: GDPR Article 17(3)(b) (compliance with a legal obligation under 18 U.S.C. § 2258A).
- Moderation action logs: Records of warnings, suspensions, and bans are retained in pseudonymized form. Legal basis: Legitimate interest in community safety; GDPR Article 17(3)(e) (establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims).
9. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?
In Short: We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.
We have implemented appropriate and reasonable technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. These include:
- Identity and network hashing: Your Steam ID, Discord user ID (if linked), and IP address are all salted and hashed (SHA-256) before storage, preventing direct identification even in the event of a data breach. No plaintext versions of these identifiers are stored on our servers.
- Secret salt protection: The salt used for hashing is stored as a server-side environment variable, never committed to source code or exposed to clients.
- Encryption in transit: All communications between the game client and our servers use encrypted connections.
- Data minimization: We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate the service, with short retention periods for most data types.
- Pseudonymization at deletion: When accounts are deleted, retained moderation records are pseudonymized by replacing personal identifiers with opaque references.
However, despite our safeguards and efforts to secure your information, no electronic transmission over the Internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorized third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the Services within a secure environment.
10. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?
In Short: Depending on your state of residence in the US or in some regions, such as the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), Switzerland, and Canada, you have rights that allow you greater access to and control over your personal information. You may review, change, or terminate your account at any time.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the contact details provided in the section "HOW CAN YOU CONTACT US ABOUT THIS NOTICE?" below.
However, please note that this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.

See Section 8 for full details on what is retained after account deletion and the legal bases for retention.
If you have questions or comments about your privacy rights, you may email us at bmp@virtualized.dev.
11. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.
12. DO UNITED STATES RESIDENTS HAVE SPECIFIC PRIVACY RIGHTS?
In Short: If you are a resident of certain US states, you may have the right to request access to and receive details about the personal information we maintain about you and how we have processed it, correct inaccuracies, get a copy of, or delete your personal information.
